I may be still learning, but I can still offer some useful advice for others. I tried to leave out stuff I've seen in other tutorials which would normally make me go tl;dr, but instead focued on adding visuals to give new ideas on how to make better pixel art.

Another tutorial regarding palettes which you may find useful (and has a much better example of a two-dimensional palette): [link]

I was gonna make a guide that was basically a very thorough dissection of my own avatar, but then I realized it would turn too big, so I turned it into a collection of protips regarding colors/palettes.

P.s. Also, the awesome part about pixel art? You have full control over your colors. The fun palette swaps I made on the bottom hardly takes any effort :D

I believe with tip #3, that can be explained with a little rule of Colour Theory I learned with digital painting.

That is, "To make your painting more lively, if your shading is has a cool tone, than your highlight must be warm toned, and vice versa". What you have there is a rather cold shade of purple for a shadow, and then a warm, energetic light purple highlight - and as you said, more red tinted.

In a lot of great paintings, if not all, you will see the rule applied. I can't really guess whether you knew of this rule or not, but either way, you were definitely on the ball with that one!

Yeah, this little collection of tips was old. There's probably a few more that I can add if I took the time to rewrite it. I wasn't aware of that rule of warn/cool shadows/highlights then, but I'm well aware of it now.

Wow! I never knew that ! So instead using the same color in light and dark , I can change it the a color similar to it. And avoid coloring the same colour in different parts ! Thank you so much ! This helped me a lot !

Yeah, I think that tip can have its own tutorial for elaboration. I'll do it some time...

Well, for your balloon icons, I notice some of them are light colored so they are pretty much drowned out in the background which is also a light color.

I haven't tried this personally, but wanna see what happens if you put a secondary outline (for a lack of a better term) around your sprites? Something like... this example you conveniently put in your own profile page: [link]

Better yet, have you tried putting an outline at all?
