Cover Art- Twilight's Task by Pix3M Cover Art- Twilight's Task by Pix3M
Something I did for Danielsaur's chiptunes. Making these mostly as practice with backgrounds.

I think I derped forgetting that this was originally supposed to be horizontally flipped the other way :stare: But lets see how many people notice.

I like this retro style you gave it. (8-bit, is it called?) Yay, background practice! I never thought you'd go for something so simplistic, as you're usually into detail. But it's a nice to change a little bit for certain pieces for variety.

I would not call this 8-bit. I would just this a simplistic 'modern retro' style that stylisitically goes with the chiptune music style of Danielsaur. I could theoretically go more into detail but I still need to be more familiar with backgrounds before I start going into detail. Till then, i'm taking baby steps rendering simple, abstract shapes.

Yeah, it's not quite 8-bit. It's always good to start slow with backgrounds until you're comfortable with that level, then move on to a higher level.

This is INCREDIBLY well done!

The background is amazingly well detailed and the eyes and hair are stunning.

Fantastic job! :D

I lol'd at 'well-detailed'.

I wouldn't call it detailed because if you think about it, the backgrounds are just simple shapes. I think it's simply done so that you're filling in little gaps of detail. IMO, I think it's what makes simpler styles very powerful if they are able to suggests details that you do not literally see.

Very true and well said, but I also think with minimalistic art (and this style of pixel art) there is a greater importance on the details of what IS seen: primarily the edges and corners of what is presented (which I think you handle very well). :D

I consider it a central part of pixel artistry. Often, we work at small enough scales we inevitably have to toss out details in favor for more important ones.

Ever seen this artist who's probably more deserving of the title of being a master of pixels? :iconfool:

[link] I dare you to ppen that up in MS paint or something and zoom in as far as you can.

In principle, his hyper-detailed style is actually more similar to the style I did my cover art with than we think. He draws simple shapes with his colors just like I did. It's pretty amazing.
