Description

Living in Seattle, cannabis has been legal and about a year ago, I tried it for the first time.

For some time, it didn't do me any good when its side effects were kicking me in the ass when I lived with an abusive ex GF for three months. For a good six months, I hadn't done any weed though half of that was because I agreed to stop smoking while I was beginning to receive counseling services. It didn't help that I keep getting into crisis mode soon after smoking.

Then, I slowly started again.

The first times weren't that interesting, then some time after my birthday, something seemed to start changing. While I was training my ear to learn music, I noticed that I heard things more clearly when high.

Then, I got high multiple nights in a row doing nothing but listen to music. Picking up every detail of those songs, to a point that I began to hear some songs not as one unified noise, but a frankenstined "thing" where they simply copy-pasted sounds that were recorded in different rooms. I could literally HEAR the ROOM that those songs were recorded in.

I'm trying to figure out what details are imagined, and what details are actually real. I'm currently listening to chiptune music where I can "feel" the room those samples were recorded in, except all the samples were not recorded - simply invented out of thin air by a computer.

It's bizzaire. With sight, you can see every detail and YOU know those details are there. With sound, your brain can "see every detail" too, but it doesn't work out that way. My brain can't listen to a sound and have a digital recording where every damn last detail is literally recorded. There's no way that you're gonna wrap your head sound the shape of every wave. What your sense of hearing does instead is "transliterate" that information to something closer to what your conscious does

and with the AJ picture, I was realizing that the way cannabis affects my sense of sight

and eventually realized... I think what it really takes to be a real master of any craft made to appeal to people's senses - art for vision, music for hearing, cooking for taste - What you should be doing is training your senses.

Want to be a good artist? Train the way you see things. Ask yourself "How much wider than taller is that object?". I literally do this all the time at work. "Is this a correctly sized range box? Is that the correct-size coat hanger that the appraisers require for their job?" Ever since around high school when I started to take more interest in art, I was training my eye ever since.

So, cannabis makes me uncannily intelligent. Want to be a good artist, visual or otherwise? Study your own senses.
