As much as I'd like to get started with drawing all of the leaves after getting down the basic shading, I wanna know if I even got down the basic shading to begin with.

If you can't see any potential issues, consider this: There are areas which I'm seeing some issues with, so I really don't think that this is perfect by any means. I'd thought I'd share this here to see if people can find issues I can't spot.

If necessary, you can draw over this if describing issues in English is difficult.

Not a bad job indeed! In the critique event that you've unfortunately left early, the general consensus is you've done a great job, especially given the limited colour palette. However introducing an extra colour/highlight would give it a little more polish. So perhaps introducing an extra colour would rectify this problem. However there aren't any major issues with it, it's just a matter of polish really! The shapes and shading though overall is fantastic, and lighting is good. Also a bit of dithering might help it along too but again that's not a major issue, just something worth considering! Keep up the good work!

With a little color tweaking, you might be able to use the lightest shade of yellow/yellow green on the trunk for highlights.(suggested)
If the darkest shade of brown was edited, you could use the darkest shade of green on the trunk as the darkest shade of brown.(not suggested, but very possible)

I also suggest that you make the shadow come down a little bit on the left edge of the trunk making the shadow more like a parabola shape, to make the trunk look more cylindrical.

It kinda feels lie there are two light sources. Besies that, I don't see many major things. I'm not a pixel artist, nor am I good with shading, so I could be wrong. Just my input.

Now do a tree with detailed bark and lining so that I can blatantly copy you and finally learn, because even tutorials haven't helped me on trees.

I can't really help you with this one, though. The bubbly tree shape is something I think would work great in a situation with no real texturing (which is to say, something really cartoony overall). I know you're probably intending to draw leaves and detailing, so it's mostly a moot point.

It looks really nice!
the palette was well chosen.
Since it's just a WIP, I won't bug too much...
well you need more depth on the bark, the purple alone is a bit dull... it could use a 2nd dark toned color
on the side of it maybe?
The cartoony feel is great overall!

I like it! my only concern is it could use some dithering, that way the colors transition better, and it looks better shadded :B

Dithering will likely clash with the other tiles I have made. It's from a tile set which is a WIP, and will not make sense with grass tiles I've made which has no room for dithering.

I feel like knowing the time of day would help here. The shadows on the bark suggest night time but the leaves suggest mid day. So less blue-grey on the trunk to make it clearly day time or more blue-grey on the leaves and subtle highlights for a night time tree would be great. Over all, I think you have the basic light sourcing down quite nicely =) Can't wait to see this finished =3
