A little backstory for anyone curious by my recent change of art direction - I was recently asked to join a team trying to make a game which pretty much has only programmer art to work with. No idea how far this game project will go, but I decided to help out anyways since they seem to be a very determined (plus, the idea of actually putting my skills to use without worrying about staying coherent with other artists). I'll still be helping out with MLPOnline but at this point, my role pretty much evolved to handle only really difficult things that other spriters can't handle.
Before people ask me questions, I won't say much about the project as we have almost nothing to show at this point.
Also, pretty strange to directly compare this to Rarity's desktop pony version of herself. Despite this sprite being similar size and at the same resolution, rarity's desktop pony sprite looks a lot more pixellated/lower resolution than my own sprite.
Dissect this all you want if you feel it could be improved. Just show me something concrete if you're on to something. atm, I'm not inclined to pay too much attention to suggestions written on paper and not put into practice.
How many frames does that use? I myself am trying to be a decent pixel artist to complete the homebrew game I am working on. However I am limited by a 32x32 pixel size for player character frames.
Darn, I was hoping it was less. I guess maybe I'm pushing my luck trying to get a fluid walking/running animation in 4 frames. What I currently have is featured in my profile if you can take a look.
Otherwise, I thank you for the speedy response and I wish you luck in your endeavors.
If it is about the actual flash animation, I think so. Otherwise no, I'll look for it.
Now that I watched it I guess I need to break down the animation into frames and analyze which ones are the ones required for a logical movement. Kinda hard to do in a 32x32 pixel slot but I'll give it another shot.
Nice, I like it. It looks a bit more like a professional game sprite, and the animation is very fluid, and similar to the show. Kinda reminds me of the characters from the "Mario & Luigi" RPG games.
Also I love this!

Be aware that I manipulated some antialiasing to help create an even more fluid animation than otherwise possible though.
